Academic activities at Taraba State University (TSU) have come to a grinding halt once again, as the ongoing nationwide strike has forced the suspension of the first semester examinations at the institution.
Unlike other public servants in the state who have continued their duties despite the strike, members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at TSU have chosen to stand in solidarity with the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) by joining the industrial action.
Joshua Mbaver, the chairman of ASUU at TSU, emphasized that their allegiance to the NLC compelled them to support the strike, vowing to abstain from academic activities until the leadership of the trade unions deems it fit to call off the strike.
The institution’s management, represented by the school registrar, Joseph U. Bibinu, issued a circular announcing the suspension of the ongoing semester examination. In the communication, both staff and students were urged to remain calm as a new examination schedule would be conveyed in due course.
However, the ASUU strike has been met with disapproval from many students at TSU, who voiced their concerns to Media Talk Africa.
Notably, apart from the TSU ASUU’s full compliance with the strike, no other sectors of the NLC in the state have participated in the ongoing industrial action.
