In a recent statement, the Information Officer of the council, Fahad Muhammad, disclosed this groundbreaking achievement, highlighting the commitment to safeguarding the health of young girls in the area.

HPV, a prevalent viral infection primarily transmitted through skin-to-skin contact, is a leading cause of several types of cancer, including cervical cancer. Despite often being asymptomatic, the ramifications of HPV cannot be understated, making proactive measures such as vaccination crucial in preventing potential health hazards.

The Federal Government’s initiative to administer the HPV vaccine to girls between the ages of nine and 14 is a commendable stride in prioritizing their well-being. The vaccine targets HPV types 16 and 18, which are responsible for approximately 70% of cervical cancer cases, underscoring the significance of this preventive healthcare intervention.

Malam Umar Bello, the Immunisation Officer of the area, praised the unwavering support and cooperation exhibited by parents and other stakeholders throughout the vaccination campaign. Additionally, Usman Abdullahi, the Primary Health Care Development Manager in the area, extended gratitude to the council Chairman, Umar Baffa, for his instrumental support, which facilitated the seamless execution of the vaccination program.

Furthermore, Mr. Abdullahi lauded the proactive efforts of the management of primary and junior secondary schools, acknowledging their pivotal role in ensuring that the targeted students within their purview received the HPV vaccine.

The resounding success of the HPV vaccination initiative in Birniwa Local Government is emblematic of a broader statewide effort. Dr. Kabir Ibrahim, the Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, reported that a total of 65,000 girls were vaccinated across all 27 local government areas of the state. This milestone speaks volumes about the concerted drive to proactively protect the health of young girls in Jigawa.

This commendable feat is a testament to the unwavering dedication towards promoting public health and underscores the pivotal role of preventive healthcare interventions in safeguarding the well-being of the community.
