Rothen reacts as PSG moves to sign striker to mark Messi, Neymar

Former Paris Saint-Germain winger Jerome Rothen has reacted to the club’s move to sign 19-year-old Rayan Cherki.

The 19-year-old is said to have been forced on the Ligue1 champions by Kylian Mbappe.

Cherki would provide competition to Lionel Messi and Neymar on either flank.

Cherki is a key member of Lyon’s squad since making his debut in October 2019, helping them reach the Coupe de la Ligue final in 2020.

The France U21 International has popped up on PSG’s radar in the final week of the winter transfer window.

Rothen told RMC Sport that the French champions will sign Cherki to bolster their ranks in January.

“For a club like PSG, which dominates the league, I find it good to want to bet on a young player,” he said

“The Parisians are in this perspective now and I say yes.”
