At the 19th Annual Nigerian Editors Conference (ANEC) in Uyo with the theme “Stimulating Economic Growth, Technological Advancement: Role of the Media,” National Security Adviser (NSA) Mallam Nuhu Ribadu shed light on President Bola Tinubu’s understated approach to the security sector’s progress since assuming office.

Ribadu, emphasizing that his aim was not to criticize, acknowledged the challenging state inherited by the current administration. However, he proudly highlighted the reduction in militancy in the Niger Delta and improved security in the South East since Tinubu’s leadership began. He assured that these improvements were just the beginning.

He revealed, “At the time of assuming office, crude oil production in the Niger Delta stood at 1.1 million barrels per day (mbd). Today, it has surged to over 1.7 mbd. Notably, we’ve experienced three consecutive weeks without security incidents in the Niger Delta, a milestone unprecedented since 1993.”

“In the South East, when we took office last year, 46 police stations had suffered attacks. Today, not a single one has been attacked. In the last two months, there has been no loss of life due to violent acts in the southeast,” he continued, underscoring the leadership’s silent yet impactful strategy. “The leadership we have in our country understands things a bit better: work more, talk less.”

While acknowledging the security improvements, Ribadu stressed the need for collective efforts to address other forms of insecurity. He affirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing citizens’ welfare and maintaining transparency in governance.

It is evident that the administration’s approach to security has not been about making noise but has yielded tangible results, marking a quiet revolution.
