Appeal Court Disqualifies LP’s Doherty, Declares APC’s Age-Suleiman Winner in Lagos

In a significant turn of events, the Appeal Court has invalidated the victory of Labour Party’s Olukayode Doherty and proclaimed the All Progressives Congress’ Rauf Age-Suleiman as the triumphant candidate in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Amuwo-Odofin II Constituency election.

Following the affirmation of the Election Petition Tribunal’s decision, the court has upheld its ruling, directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to bestow Age-Suleiman with the certificate of return, officially recognising him as the rightful winner of the election.

This verdict is grounded in the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022, which mandates that a candidate cannot be declared the victor if they did not substantially engage in the electoral process.
