The National Boundary Commission (NBC) and the Office for Strategic Preparedness and Resilience/National Center for the Coordination of Early Warning and Response Mechanisms have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the aim of fostering peaceful coexistence between Nigeria and its neighboring countries.
With the signing of this MoU, the two entities seek to promote peace and harmonious relations not only between Nigeria and its neighbors but also within the constituent states of the Federation, as well as among local governments and communities.
According to a statement released by the information unit officer, Efe Ovuakporie, in the nation’s capital, Abuja, this collaborative effort is a significant step towards addressing the insecurity challenges facing the country and restoring peace, which is crucial for economic progress.
Emphasizing the pivotal role of peace and stability in national development, Mr. Adamu Adaji, the Director-General of the NBC, expressed confidence in the potential of the partnership to contribute to the advancement of transborder cooperation, ultimately leading to a positive impact on the nation’s economy.
Additionally, Mr. Adaji highlighted the importance of leveraging the combined expertise and shared data between the NBC and OSPRE, recognizing it as a key driver for progress and cooperation between the two agencies.
Mr. Chris Ngwodo, the Director-General of OSPRE, also echoed the sentiment, affirming that collaborating with the NBC is a strategic pathway for promoting peace and development. He underscored the significance of providing timely and accurate data and analysis, which is poised to enhance national and regional crisis prevention and response capacities.
Furthermore, the MoU signing signifies the commitment of both parties to develop and implement joint projects aimed at fostering peace and public safety within Nigeria and across its borders with neighboring countries. It is anticipated that this collaboration will play a pivotal role in significantly reducing insecurity within Nigeria and along its international borders.
Ultimately, the strategic partnership between the National Boundary Commission and OSPRE marks a significant milestone in the collective efforts towards promoting peace and security, paving the way for a more stable and prosperous future for the nation and its neighboring countries.
