Commission Set to Review Migration Policies

To curb the issue of Migration in Nigeria the National Refugee Commission and Internally Displaced Persons has held a quarterly meeting of the Technical Working Group on Migration and Development in Abuja the nation’s capital.

The meeting brings together all key ministries, departments, and Agencies as well as civil society organisations,  State and non-state actors to promote institutional collaboration and coherence in the management of Migration in Nigeria.

The Federal Commissioner of National Refugee Commission and Internally Displaced Persons Mr, Aliyu Ahmed said the aim is to provide an opportunity for thematic leads to provide updates of their activities to the Technical Working Group.

“The meeting is going to look into two main issues, One to review Migration policies where it is necessary and also to prepare the results, challenges, suggestions and recommendations for the National Migration Dialogue events which are coming on December 7th, 2023.”

“We also appreciate our development partners, who have been doing very well on the issue of Migration in ensuring that our migrants have a place to live within Nigeria and Diaspora”

The Programme Officer International Organisation for Migration in Nigeria IOM Mrs, Ukamaka Anyanechi expressed the commitment of the IOM in assisting Nigeria to ensure that the migration issue is addressed.

“The Technical Working Group team is going to provide update on where we are, about this technical assistance for the policy review and also receiving different reports from our partners for the upcoming National Migration Dialogue.

The Technical Working Group meeting comprises expertise from government institutions, Agencies and Departments, Non-governmental organisations, and civil society amongst others to ensure that migration policy is reviewed where necessary and adopt measures that would ease the plight of migrants in Nigeria and the Diaspora.
