The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) issued the certificate of return to Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State on Friday, in recognition of his victory in the November 11 Governorship poll.

At a brief ceremony in Owerri, Governor Uzodimma pledged to establish a legacy that promotes harmony in the state’s political landscape.

He assured that his administration would be inclusive, accommodating the interests of every Imo citizen.

Furthermore, Governor Uzodimma expressed gratitude to all sectors of society for their contributions to his victory. He also acknowledged the exceptional performance of his running mate, Mrs. Chinyere Ekomaru, who received a certificate of return at the event.

Notably, Mrs. Ekomaru’s emergence marks her as the second female deputy governor since the establishment of the state in 1976.

In his commendation, the governor lauded INEC for delivering what has been widely acclaimed as the freest, fairest, and most peaceful election in the state’s history.

He attributed his victory to strategic planning, hard work, and the grace of God. Additionally, he credited the Imo Charter of Equity initiative and his commendable performance over the past four years.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kenneth Ukeagu, INEC’s National Commissioner for South-East, emphasized that the issuance of the certificate was in compliance with Section 72 (1) of the Electoral Act, 2022.

He affirmed the commission’s commitment to upholding its constitutional mandate of conducting free, fair, credible, and transparent elections. Ukeagu also reassured Nigerians that INEC would continually enhance and strengthen the electoral process.

Prof. Sylvia Agu, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, commended the stakeholders involved in the state’s first off-cycle governorship election. She highlighted the victory as a testament to the winners’ hard work and the electorate’s trust in their leadership.

As the focus shifts from campaigning to governance, Prof. Agu encouraged Governor Uzodimma to lead and govern for all, delivering on his promises and embodying the mandate bestowed upon him by the people of Imo State.

She called for unity among political affiliations and ideologies, emphasizing the importance of building a state where peace, progress, and inclusivity prevail.

This development marks a significant moment for Imo State, and with the assurance of an inclusive and progressive government, Governor Hope Uzodimma’s leadership sets a new precedent for the state’s political landscape.
