The Forever Initiative, a coalition of PDP support groups, has given the Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, a 72-hour ultimatum to transfer power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, or face severe consequences.

In a press conference at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja on Friday, the National Coordinator of the group, Obande Obande, expressed the group’s discontent with the failure of President Bola Tinubu and the national leadership of the APC to address the unresolved constitutional issues in Ondo State. As a result, the group threatened to occupy the Governor’s Office if the ultimatum is not heeded.

Obande stated, “We hereby call on Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to either resume within 72 hours or hand over power to his Deputy for the effective management of Ondo State.

“We are resolute that if the Governor does not comply within 72 hours, we will have no choice but to occupy Ondo State Government House to press home our demand.”

The group highlighted their dissatisfaction with the APC’s leadership, citing the political vacuum in Ondo State as a glaring example of the party’s failure to provide effective governance.

Obande went on to compare the situation to past occurrences, stating, “During our (PDP’s) time in power, when former President Umar Musa Yar’Adua was incapacitated and left the country without transmitting power to the Vice President, our party invoked the constitution’s powers and empowered the Vice President as the Acting President.

“Similarly, in Taraba State when the late Gov Danbaba Suntai had an air crash, we managed to resolve the crisis. However, the ruling APC has inadequately handled the political crisis in Ondo State.”
