CCB arraigns Kano anti-graft boss over alleged N390m fraud

The Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Graft Commission, Muhuyi Magaji, has been arraigned before the Code of Conduct Tribunal in Abuja on a 10-count charge of corruption.

The charges filed by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) include alleged breach of the code of conduct for public officers, conflict of interest, abuse of office, false asset declaration, bribery, and accepting gifts.

Magaji was granted bail of N5 million with two sureties possessing properties within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and the case has been adjourned to January 10, 2024.

This development is coming amid ongoing probes by both the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Code of Conduct Bureau into Magaji’s tenure under the administration of the former Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.

Magaji, who was investigating the former governor for alleged corruption based on a viral video purportedly showing him receiving kickbacks in dollars from a contractor, had pledged to bring Ganduje to justice if found guilty.

In related letters, the EFCC and CCB have separately requested financial records and details of forfeited properties from the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Graft Commission.

The agencies are seeking information on funds released by the Office of the Accountant General of Kano State and the Kano State Ministry of Local Government from 2019 to 2021, as well as details of contractual undertakings by the Commission from 2016 to date.
