The former Nigerian ambassador to Kenya, Yusuf Yunusa, has sadly passed away at the age of 73 due to a brief illness. He breathed his last at the Yobe University Teaching Hospital, Damaturu, on Friday.

The funeral prayers for the late ambassador were attended by Governor Mai Mala Buni, represented by Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali, along with numerous other dignitaries. The funeral prayers, led by the Chief Imam of Nguru Emirate, Imam Shehu Goni Abba, were a gathering of heartfelt remembrance and respect.

Governor Buni, speaking at the event, eulogized the late ambassador as an elder statesman, a man of dedication, honesty, and a highly skilled civil servant and technocrat. He described Ambassador Yusuf Yunusa as someone who lived a selfless life, leaving behind an enduring legacy.

As the community mourns the loss, prayers have been offered for the departed soul, beseeching Almighty Allah (SWT) to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Jannathul Firdaus. There have also been prayers for strength and solace for the grieving family during this immensely challenging time.

Born in Nguru in 1950, Ambassador Yusuf Yunusa is survived by four wives, 21 children, many grandchildren, and brothers, including Engineer Mustapha Yunusa Maihaja, former Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
