Catholic Bishop Conducts Mass Wedding for 30 Couples in Niger State

The Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, has officiated a mass wedding for over 30 couples in Niger State. The ceremony took place at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Agwarra Local Government Area.

Rev. Yohanna emphasized the importance of legal marriage and the blessing of the church, highlighting the traditional practices in the region where couples cohabit without formalizing their union or paying the bride price.

Addressing the significance of the event, Rev. Yohanna stated, “We have to encourage them to do what is right, especially as Catholics. With this blessing of marriage, these thirty couples are now legally and officially married.”

The parish priest, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Okoro, disclosed that the couples had completed their marriage traditional rites and underwent three months of marriage counseling to qualify for the church ceremony.

Shuaibu Brisallah and his wife, who had been living together for years with their four children, expressed their joy and gratitude for the opportunity to formalize their union. They thanked the bishop for guiding them towards the right path.
