The Osun State University, UNIOSUN, has refuted claims of hiking tuition fees for the upcoming academic session, describing the information as misleading. According to the University’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, the recent adjustments in fees only pertain to ancillary charges and not tuition fees, reaffirming the Vice-Chancellor’s earlier statement in the face of prevailing economic challenges.

Adesoji emphasized, “The recent adjustments in fees pertain solely to ancillary charges, not tuition fees. The University reaffirms the earlier statement made by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Clement Adebooye, confirming that there would be no increment in tuition fees due to prevailing economic challenges. The reported increment purportedly discovered on the institution’s website does not relate to tuition and is described accordingly.”

Addressing the issue, the Osun Masterminds (TOM) rejected the purported reduction in the funding to UNIOSUN in their November state of the state address. Its Executive Director, Prof. Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli, emphasized that any reduction in subvention to UNIOSUN would force the institution to increase its revenue, particularly through an increase in School fees. This stance was opposed by TOM, citing the additional burden it would place on already impoverished parents.

On the other hand, the spokesperson to the Osun State Governor, Olawale Rasheed, countered the claims made by TOM. Rasheed insisted that the group overlooked the completion of several abandoned projects at the university by the current administration and criticized their focus on financial adjustments, which, according to the government, is compensated for by substantial capital funding support to the university.
