President Tinubu Extends Condolences Over the Passing of Former Army Chief, Major General Chris Alli

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Alli family and the Nigerian Army following the demise of the former Chief of Army Staff, Major-General Chris Alli (retired), who passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023.

In a statement released by the President’s Spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu lamented the loss of the former Army Chief, recognizing his dedicated service to the nation.

“I condole with the Alli family and the Nigerian Army over the sad loss of the former Chief of Army Staff. He served his country with honor and retired meritoriously. May the Almighty God rest his soul and grant his family the fortitude to bear the huge void,” the President expressed in the statement.

Born on 25 December 1944 in Koton Karfe, Kogi State, Major General Chris Alli began his career in the Nigerian Army on 20 October 1967, as a member of the Emergency Short Service Combatant Course.

Major General Alli served as the ninth Army Chief from November 1993 until his retirement from active service in August 1994.

During the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida, he held the position of Military Administrator of Plateau State Nigeria from August 1985 to 1986.

Amidst a 2004 crisis in Plateau State, following ethno-religious clashes in Shendam, Yelwa Local Government, he was appointed interim administrator of the state, showcasing his commitment to national peace and stability.

Prior to his appointment as Chief of Army Staff, Major General Chris Alli had also served as the Director of Military Intelligence (DMI).

The late Major General Chris Alli passed away after an illness at the Military Hospital in Lagos State, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering service to the nation.
