Twenty-eight premature babies have been urgently moved from the Gaza Strip to hospitals in Cairo and North Sinai, Egypt for critical medical care.
Reporting from Al-Qahera News television affirms that the Palestinian Red Crescent facilitated the transportation, as ambulances departed from Gaza’s Emirati Hospital on Monday, transporting the fragile infants to the Rafah crossing for the transfer to Egypt.
In a significant development, Minister of Health Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar closely supervised the entire process, as captured in footage broadcasted by Al-Qahera News. Each delicate infant was meticulously placed into an incubator before being carefully ushered into the awaiting Egyptian ambulances.
Prior to this transfer, 31 premature infants were relocated from the besieged al-Shifa Hospital in northern Gaza to the Emirati Hospital in the southern part of the enclave. Unfortunately, two infants tragically succumbed before the evacuation.
The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that doctors in Gaza have emphasized the severe infections affecting these vulnerable infants, attributing it to the acute shortage of medical supplies. Regrettably, several of these infants are in critical condition.
Notably, none of the infants were accompanied by close relatives, as the Palestinian Ministry of Health encountered challenges in locating family members willing and able to accompany them, as corroborated by WHO.
