A not-for-profit organization in Ebonyiion has alleged that the Igbos and the Ezza clan are the most marginalized groups in Nigeria.
The group claimed that Igbos are the brains behind Nigeria’s development while the growth of Ebonyi State can only be attributed to the efforts of the Ezza clan in the state, worrying that yet, they remain the most unaccepted people in the country.
The group under the aegis of, ‘I Stand With Obi/Datti’ made the assertions in a statement signed and made available to newsmen in Abakaliki by its Director General Delaw Eze.
The Director General of the Youth organization, Delaw Eze made this known in a statement signed and made available to newsmen in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi state.
Eze said, “Igbos are the only tribe in Nigeria that is mostly marginalized politically, yet with the highest numbers. Why is it this way? We hardly support our own, especially in politics. We are too comfortable in following when we should be leading. We cry of marginalisation, yet we marginalise ourselves more. The Igbos have always been the major causes of the falling or failure of Ndigbo.
“For the first time, an Igbo man (Obi) is receiving support from all quarters of the nation except his region (Ndigbo). This is the sorry state we found ourselves in as a people. A careful look at the other candidates will make you believe with me that, they will get bulk votes from their own people and still get from Ndigbo, while Obi may likely struggle for votes in his own place and may even get more outside.
“The Ezzas alone can win an election but where is the unity? Where is the solidarity? For the first time since the creation of Ebonyi state, an opportunity is presenting itself for the Ezzas to lead but the majority, especially the stakeholders are better with what they can gain from others than what they can give to their own.
“Now, what about the Ezzas in Ebonyi State? They are the majority that has never led. They are the majority that has never occupied any tangible political position in Ebonyi. They are the majority with which others win elections but have never won
The group, however, tasked all prominent leaders and all citizens of Ndigbo and Ezza clans to unite and jettison the attitude and character of not supporting their own.
