Bayelsa State Governor Warns Corps Members Against Truancy and Absenteeism

During the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch ‘B” Stream I Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Boro Town, Senator. Douye Diri, the Governor of Bayelsa State, admonished Corps members against induced rejection, truancy, absenteeism, and redundancy at their primary assignments, particularly in government establishments. Governor Diri emphasized that such misconduct would not be condoned in the state.

Represented by the Executive Assistant to the Governor on NYSC Matters, Mr Wisdom Poyeri, Gov. Diri assured the Corps members of top-notch security and welfare during their service year. He reiterated the government’s commitment to prioritizing their welfare to enhance their service to the nation. The Governor also pledged to maintain a conducive environment for the Corps members to have a fulfilling service year in Bayelsa state. He further directed all security agencies in the state to provide adequate security to the members of the National Youth Service Corps.

At the same event, Mrs Okpalifo Obiageli Charity, the State Coordinator, commended the Corps members and camp officials for their exemplary discipline, ensuring a smooth orientation course. She urged the Corps members to diligently carry out their duties and emphasized the significance of their primary and secondary assignments as crucial programs of the National Youth Service Corps.

Expressing gratitude to the Governor, the government, and the people of Bayelsa State for their unwavering support for the scheme, Mrs. Charity appealed to all employers of Corps members to assist them in quickly settling down to deliver quality services to the state. She also highlighted the importance of the orientation course, urging Corps members to leverage the lessons learned in patriotism, teamwork, and resilience to contribute to the progress and development of the country.

Furthermore, she reminded the Corps members that they are ambassadors of the NYSC, their families, and institutions of graduation and admonished them to avoid actions that could tarnish the image of the Scheme. She encouraged them to utilize the skills acquired during the in-camp Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program to empower themselves for self-reliance.
