The Abia State government has made a significant decision to cancel the results of the Preliminary Test Sessions (PTS) conducted in the state-owned nursing schools. The announcement was made by the commissioner for information and culture, Okey Kanu, during a press briefing at the government house in Umuahia, following this week’s State Executive Council meeting.

Commissioner Kanu revealed that a new date will be scheduled for the re-taking of the PTS examinations and assured that the students would not be required to pay any additional fees for this process. He also highlighted that ongoing investigations are being carried out to thoroughly address the issue.

During the briefing, Kanu mentioned that a committee had been established to investigate the grievances, and they had engaged with both the concerned students and relevant officials, taking into account the complaints from all parties involved.

Notably, just two weeks ago, students of Nursing staged a protest in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, advocating for the annulment of their PTS exam results. They alleged widespread manipulation and compromise in the release of the examination results by the nursing authorities, with some calling for the removal of the Abia State Director of Nursing Service, Mrs. Onyeukwu Nwakaego.

In response to the grievance, Governor Alex Otti promptly initiated a committee to investigate the matter, urging the complainants to provide concrete evidence to support their claims. He pledged to ensure that anyone found culpable will face appropriate consequences.

This development underscores the commitment of the Abia State government to uphold the integrity of academic assessments and ensure a fair and transparent process for all students involved in nursing education within the state.
