Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Claim Control of Strategic Areas in Sudan

Rapid Support Forces (RSF) declared significant advancements in various regions of Sudan, including the complete takeover of the Jebel Aulia military base, the Shag Omar oilfield in Abu Karinka, and the Ed Daein international airport in East Darfur.

The RSF spokesperson announced that the capture of the Jebel Aulia military base marked the beginning of a “series of victories” for the paramilitary group. Following the takeover, the area was subjected to aerial bombardment, resulting in the destruction of military vehicles and casualties, as depicted in video clips released by RSF soldiers.

Major General Osman Mohamed Hamid, Director of the RSF Military Operation Room, made a significant appearance within the captured military base, expressing his commitment to safeguard the RSF, the Sudanese people, and advocate for justice, equality, freedom, and peace.

A noteworthy development is the rising tensions between the RSF and the army, as citizens reported conflicting information regarding the control of El Najumi air defence base and the alleged destruction of the Jebel Aulia Bridge.

In light of the escalating conflict, reports emerged of civilian casualties, injuries, and displacement, particularly from Jebel Aulia and El Katina, sparking protests and social media activism under the hashtag #JebelAuliaMassacre, condemning the RSF’s actions and seeking information on missing individuals.

Additionally, the RSF seized control of the Shag Omar oilfield in Abu Karinka and the Ed Daein international airport in East Darfur, resulting in smoke billowing from the oilfield, looting, casualties, and clashes between the RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in Ed Daein, underscoring the widespread impact of the RSF’s operations.

The RSF also denounced the SAF’s bombing of El Hamra in North Kordofan as a violation of human rights and international humanitarian law, emphasizing the gravity of the situation in the region.

The recent events in Sudan reflect a complex and evolving landscape, with significant implications for the country’s security and stability.
