Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has instructed his cabinet members to brace themselves for a rigorous budget defense at the Osun House of Assembly. The governor relayed this directive on Wednesday through his spokesperson, Mr. Olawale Rasheed.

Emphasizing the need to expedite the budget processing in line with the Assembly’s schedule, he underscored the importance of complete cooperation with the legislature to achieve this goal.

“We are tasked with the governance of our state and the delivery of our five-point agenda. There is no room for distractions. It is imperative that all cabinet members ensure successful budget hearings at the Assembly by diligently preparing for the defense of their respective budget proposals,” stated Governor Adeleke.

He further urged the cabinet members to provide the relevant house committees with all the necessary information to facilitate the vetting and approval of their proposals.

Assuring his confidence in the understanding of the fiscal and economic considerations behind the 2024 budgetary proposals by the legislature, Governor Adeleke affirmed his belief in a successful outcome.

The governor also acknowledged the introduction of innovative ideas that may require new laws or amendments to existing ones, indicating that his administration is abreast of these developments.

“I hereby direct our Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) with planned executive bills to expedite their internal processes. Notably, the bill to domesticate the Nigerian Startup Act is of significant importance and should be promptly forwarded to the Assembly. This bill holds the key to boosting and diversifying our state’s economy,” he added.

In addition, he underscored the importance of the Osun electricity market bill, highlighting its potential impact on the state.
