The Mayor of Atlanta, Andre Dickens, has officially recognised the significant contributions made by Nigerian-American singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, to the entertainment industry in the city of Atlanta.
The proclamation of ‘Davido Day’ came after the OBO crooner’s headline performance at the A.W.A.Y Festival held at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta. Both the Mayor and the Atlanta City Council jointly declared November 18th as “Davido Day” in honour of the renowned artist.
Issuing a heartfelt message to the singer on his birthday, November 21, 2023, Mayor Dickens acknowledged Davido’s global influence, stating, “You have captivated audiences worldwide, becoming a true icon in the music industry. On behalf of the City of Atlanta, we express our gratitude for your unwavering dedication as a distinguished singer, songwriter, producer, business leader, philanthropist, and community advocate. Throughout your illustrious career, you have garnered numerous accolades and consistently leveraged your platform to support communities not only in the United States but also across Africa.”
Prior to this, the Atlanta City Council released a statement declaring, “We, the members of the Atlanta City Council, on behalf of the citizens of Atlanta, do hereby proclaim November 18, 2023, as Davido Day in the City of Atlanta.”
Furthermore, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners also extended an honour to Davido.
The Board designated November 21st as “Davido Appreciation Day” in the City of Fulton County, Georgia, stating, “The Fulton County Board of Commissioners recognises David for his significant contributions to the music and entertainment industry, and therefore proclaims Tuesday, November 21, 2023 as ‘Davido Appreciation Day’ in Fulton County, Georgia,” in an official statement.
