Tinubu Grapples with Knee Injury Post-Surgery, Presidency Confirms

President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has shed light on the reason behind the president’s mobility challenges.

Onanuga revealed that his boss is still recovering from a knee injury, emphasizing that this is the sole factor affecting his mobility.

The ordeal dates back to 2021 when Tinubu underwent knee surgery in London, ahead of the commencement of his presidential campaign.

Addressing inquiries from Tribune, the presidential aide dismissed speculation about Tinubu’s health, clarifying that the knee surgery is the root cause of his difficulty in walking.

“No, he was not sick. We made this clear to Nigerians. Tinubu was as fit as a fiddle in the run-up to that election,” Onanuga stated.

Explaining further, Onanuga said, “Before the campaign began, approximately a year earlier, he underwent knee surgery, a fact that was not concealed. President Buhari even visited him in London during his recovery period.”

“So, that was the purpose of his trip – knee surgery. It accounts for his challenge in walking properly,” he added.

“After undergoing knee surgery, one cannot expect to walk like a 25-year-old. The recovery is ongoing due to the significance of the procedure. There are no underlying health issues beyond this,” Onanuga affirmed.
