Former goalkeeper of the esteemed Super Eagles, Peter Rufai, has called on fans to maintain faith in the team, despite their unsteady commencement to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Africa.

The triumphant African squad has managed to secure draws in their initial two matches against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

Head coach Jose Peseiro and his squad have faced criticism following their unconvincing performances against comparatively low-ranked opponents.

Notwithstanding, Rufai has expressed his endorsement for the team to find their rhythm and clinch victory in the end.

“They have the capacity to astound us. Football is an unpredictable sport. I firmly believe they possess the capability to reverse the situation and bring joy to Nigerians,” the 60-year-old, who graced the 1994 and 1998 World Cup finals, voiced to BBC Sport Africa.

“It’s not a calamity yet.

“I anticipate the team’s resurgence leading to World Cup qualification.”

Currently, the Super Eagles are positioned in third place on the Group C standings.
