In a recent development, Dr. Abdulkarim Obaje, the National Coordinator of the Nigeria Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) Programme, revealed that the Federal Government is poised to assist states in addressing poverty, infrastructure deficiencies, food security, and providing aid to small and nano enterprises.
During a courtesy visit to Taraba Governor Agbu Kefas in Jalingo, Dr. Obaje expressed, “If the states and FCT wholeheartedly endorse the implementation of NG-CARES, it will greatly enhance access to livelihood support, food security services, and grants for vulnerable households and businesses across the country.”
Highlighting the nature of the NG-CARES programme, Dr. Obaje explained, “It operates as a Performance for Results (PforR) initiative, where states and FCT receive reimbursements for funding development projects based on agreed protocols.”
He further added, “The reimbursements are contingent on achieved results, leading to a significantly higher amount than the initial investment by the sub-national entities.”
Addressing the allocation of funds, the national coordinator revealed that Taraba has only received $3.98 million of the designated $20 million allotted to each state since the commencement of the programme.
