The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has confirmed that the 5,000 federal civil servants, who underwent verification for discrepancies in their dates of birth and appointment, will receive their salaries in December. ASCSN President, Tommy Okon, revealed this during an interview with reporters in Lagos, debunking earlier reports implying that the affected civil servants would miss their December salaries.
In September, the Federal Government removed over 17,000 workers from the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) platform due to alleged non-compliance with a verification exercise spanning five years. Following ASCSN’s intervention, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation initiated the verification of the delisted civil servants in October.
Mr. Okon explained, “Out of the verified individuals, 5,000 were found to have discrepancies in their records, specifically in their dates of birth and dates of first appointment. The head of service has assembled a six-man team to rectify these issues.” He further stated, “This was to ensure that these discrepancies are resolved, enabling the affected civil servants to receive their salaries in December, along with the arrears from September.”
Additionally, the ASCSN president noted that after collating the results of both online and physical verifications, the head of service identified that 2,772 individuals had no discrepancies and their names had been forwarded for payment. However, due to the timing of the submission, they could not receive their November salaries.
The assurance by ASCSN brings relief to the affected civil servants, guaranteeing that the discrepancies in their records will be addressed to enable them to receive their rightful remuneration. This development underscores the crucial role played by ASCSN in advocating for the welfare of civil servants, ensuring that their concerns are promptly addressed by the government.
