The Ogun State Government has announced its plans to kickstart the construction of terminals for the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) bus mass transit scheme along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway axis, aimed at enhancing transportation infrastructure within the state.

Commissioner for Transportation, Dairo Olugbenga, revealed this during a radio programme in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Thursday. He emphasized that the commencement of construction is imminent, with all necessary implementation frameworks in place. Olugbenga also called on the public to throw their weight behind the state government for the successful execution of the construction activities in those areas.

“I want to use this medium to plead with our people for their support, as this is another integral part of development geared towards easing the movement of people and goods in Ogun State. This will serve as a respite to environmental pollution by reducing emissions and promoting a cleaner and safer environment in the state,” he said.

Furthermore, the deployment of CNG buses in the state corridors is in the pipeline, marking a step towards more cost-effective and secure transportation even before the construction of the bus stations.

Olugbenga added, “We are going to formalise transport operations such that whoever is going into it must have between 10 and 30 buses. The current operators will be encouraged to coalesce into cooperatives. This will aid proper management and monitoring of the movement of goods and people in the state.”

In addition to the aforementioned plans, the commissioner also laid out the government’s intention to implement price control measures to ensure affordable transportation in the state.
