Nigerian Troops Eliminate Over 95 Insurgents and Apprehend 198 Terrorists

In a significant feat, the Nigerian troops have successfully neutralised 99 insurgents and captured 198 terrorists, an update revealed by the Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba during a press briefing in the capital city of Abuja.

Major General Buba also reported the arrest of 49 individuals involved in oil theft and the successful rescue of 139 kidnapped hostages, demonstrating the military’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation.

Highlighting the impact of the operations, the Director disclosed that in the South-South region, the troops thwarted attempts to steal an estimated sum of over One Billion Naira worth of oil, showcasing their dedication to curbing illegal activities.

Additionally, the troops recovered 141 assorted weapons and 1,463 varied ammunition, including rifles, pistols, grenades, and ammunition rounds.

Furthermore, it was reported that the military in the Niger Delta area executed the destruction of 245 dugout pits, 31 boats, 69 storage tanks, 23 vehicles, 162 cooking ovens, and 50 illegal refining sites, signifying a resolute stance against unlawful practices.

In a proactive move to address the economic repercussions of these activities, the troops recovered a substantial amount of stolen crude oil and illegally refined petroleum products, serving as a deterrent to those engaging in illicit trade.

Moving forward, Major General Buba reiterated the military’s readiness and determination to combat insurgents, terrorists, and extremists, emphasizing the pivotal role of public support in bolstering the ongoing operations. He urged Nigerians to rally behind the armed forces, recognising their sacrifices and unwavering commitment to national security.

Moreover, General Buba underscored the importance of collaborative efforts and the openness of the Armed Forces to constructive inputs, underlining the collective responsibility of all citizens to contribute to the ultimate victory in the fight against terrorism.

Concluding the briefing, a moment of silence was observed in honour of the brave officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, exemplifying the selflessness and courage of the Nigerian armed forces.
