Anambra Governor Vows to Enhance Security and Welfare for NYSC Corps Members

Professor Chukwuma Soludo, the Anambra State Governor, has pledged to bolster the security and welfare of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state. This assurance was made during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch B stream 1 orientation course for Corps Members deployed to Anambra State at the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC unity permanent orientation camp Umuawulu/ Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area.

The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Onyekachi Ibezim, addressed the 1,500 corps members and emphasized the administration’s commitment to evaluating the post-camp training centres of NYSC to determine their training needs and provide necessary inputs and technical support.

Expressing delight at the NYSC’s emphasis on Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED), the Governor encouraged all stakeholders, including corps employers, humanitarian organizations, and philanthropists, to support the SAED centres. Notably, the Governor extended the “One Youth, Two Skills” programme, originally launched for 10,000 state youth, to benefit about 100 Corps Members, highlighting the administration’s focus on human capital development and entrepreneurship.

Furthermore, Governor Soludo assured the corps members of ample opportunities to become successful entrepreneurs, underlining the administration’s dedication to their security and well-being. He affirmed the state’s robust security architecture, emphasizing the collaboration of all security agencies to ensure a crime-free environment.

Commending the State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Blessing Ekene Iruma, for her administrative prowess and support, Governor Soludo also acknowledged the crucial role of Corps Members posted to schools as role models for young individuals in their Places of Primary Assignment.

Patrick Agha-Mba, the Commissioner for Youth Development and Chairman of the NYSC State Governing Board, assured the new Corps Members of readily available accommodation and the support of host communities. He also highlighted the importance of community development projects and the appreciation for Corps Members impacting their communities positively.

Moreover, Mrs. Iruma, the State Coordinator, stressed the critical role of corps employers in providing welfare needs and security to Corps Members, promising continuous recognition of outstanding support. She also emphasized the NYSC’s appreciation for communities fostering community development initiatives by Corps Members and appealed for financial and material support for such projects.

Ultimately, Mrs. Iruma expressed gratitude for the Governor’s support and affirmed the commitment of NYSC management and Corps Members to uphold the state’s pride and contribute to the nation’s development. The camp officials were also commended for their dedicated service.
