Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has expressed a keen interest in collaborating with Mexico to enhance the agricultural sector of the Federal Capital, Abuja.
During a visit by the Mexican Ambassador to Nigeria, Alfredo Ortiz, in Abuja on Thursday, Mr. Wike emphasized the potential for partnership, stating, “Mexico is renowned for its agricultural prowess, and many Mexicans in Nigeria are actively engaged in agricultural enterprises.”
Mr. Wike further iterated, “The FCT has always sought to establish partnerships with countries and companies that can contribute to the agricultural and tourism development of the region.”
Highlighting the potential for Abuja to evolve into a global tourist destination in line with President Bola Tinubu’s eight-point agenda, the minister outlined the agenda’s objectives, aiming to stimulate the nation’s economy, spur job creation, wealth generation, hunger reduction, and increased participation of women and youth in governance. He additionally emphasized the commitment to upholding the rule of law to attract investors.
“As a city, we are eager to collaborate with investors for the advancement of our agricultural sector. Look at Abuja, there is an abundance of arable land suitable for agriculture,” Mr. Wike affirmed.
Expressing the populace’s yearning for agriculture to drive economic transformation and provide employment opportunities for the burgeoning youth, he assured, “Bureaucratic obstacles will no longer impede progress. Hence, we are poised to engage with Mexican companies.”
The minister underscored the commonalities between Mexico and Nigeria, asserting that both nations possess the means to surmount challenges and emerge as leaders in economic development.
In response, Mr. Ortiz conveyed the willingness of Mexican investors to engage in the FCT’s agricultural sector given a conducive environment.
