The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has taken a significant step towards ensuring transparency and efficiency in the selection process of the National Medical Team for the 2024 Hajj. The Commission has established a 15-member Committee tasked with reviewing and updating the operation of the Team.
The inauguration event, which took place at the Board room of the Hajj House in Abuja, was presided over by the Acting Chairman/CEO of NAHCON, Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi. In his address, he emphasized the need to modernize the outdated processes and procedures governing the National Medical Team’s operations.
According to a press statement by the Deputy Director of Information & Publications at NAHCON, Mousa Ubandawaki, Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi highlighted the critical role of the National Medical Team in facilitating Hajj activities. He stressed the urgency of revamping the processes and procedures to enhance performance, citing the obsolescence of existing practices.
“As with all human endeavor, the team has encountered significant challenges. Therefore, we need to think innovatively and explore alternative approaches. Despite the risks, it is imperative to revitalize their activities,” Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi asserted.
Expressing his confidence in the Committee members, the Chairman/CEO urged them to ensure flexibility while adhering to the prevailing regulations and guidelines. He exhorted them to consider the existing rules to maximize the effectiveness of the National Medical Team’s operations.
In response, the Committee Chairman, Dr. Saidu Ahmed Dumbulwa, conveyed his appreciation for their appointments and assured that the team would devise comprehensive and simplified guidelines to enhance the satisfactory service delivery to Nigerian pilgrims.
The Committee is tasked with evaluating the efficiency of the current National Medical Team Guidelines and identifying any deficiencies. Additionally, it is charged with analyzing the roles of relevant stakeholders in Nigeria and their contributions to the National Medical Team operations. These responsibilities form part of the Committee’s Terms of Reference.
