Ohanaeze Ndigbo has refuted claims of planned litigation against President Bola Tinubu over appointments, emphasizing the organization’s satisfaction with the recent ministerial appointments secured by the Igbo community following their overwhelming support for the Labour Party.
In a statement released by the factional Secretary General of Ohanaeze, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the organization highlighted the urgent need for developmental projects in the Southeast region. These include the construction of Southeast Federal expressways using cement technology, the establishment of deep seaports at Asa Blue River in Ukwa West LGA of Abia State and at Afikpo River in Ebonyi State, the implementation of standard gauge railway lines from Port-Harcourt to Maiduguri, and the creation of an additional state (Aba State) for the Southeast.
Isiguzoro also stressed the importance of restoring peace and security in the Southeast, addressing the issue of Biafra agitators through proactive measures, and initiating a federal inquiry into the tragic killings of 70 Nigerians, particularly Igbos, at Lokpanta Cattle Market along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway in Abia State.
Furthermore, Ohanaeze expressed gratitude for the appointments from previous federal governments since 1999. However, it noted that these appointments have not translated into significant public benefits, progressive policies, or substantial developmental projects in the region, despite the presence of influential ministers and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation during previous regimes.
The organization voiced disappointment over the fact that these appointments primarily favored the elite class, leaving the masses neglected. It also called out certain individuals who previously supported the Labour Party’s presidential council from Ohanaeze, alleging opportunistic maneuvers to secure appointments under Tinubu’s administration.
Ohanaeze unequivocally distanced itself from any such scheme and reiterated its unyielding commitment to representing the authentic interests of the Igbo people. The organization emphasized the significance of constructive engagement with the government to ensure equitable development and progress in the Southeast.
While expressing regret over the unauthorized publication of litigation threats and demands for additional political appointments, Ohanaeze maintained its unwavering dedication to fostering unity, advancing the welfare of the Igbo people, and advocating for their rightful inclusion in national affairs.
