Former Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro, has urged the Federal Government to enhance the fight against insecurity by leveraging technology rather than relying solely on manpower. He emphasized that criminals are outpacing the security measures put in place by various security agencies.

Okiro made these remarks at the Old Seminarians Association of Nigeria (OSAN) convention on Friday, highlighting the need for an upgrade and effective deployment of the nation’s security architecture and technology to effectively address the issue of insecurity.

Addressing the convention, Dr. Ozichukwu Fidelis Chukwu emphasized the current state of hopelessness and citizens’ helplessness in Nigeria, amidst a myriad of challenges. He stressed the importance of extending the theme of the convention, “Building our Fraternity for Prosperity,” to the larger Nigerian society, which is currently experiencing widespread despair and helplessness.

Dr. Chukwu added, “To achieve this, we must contribute additional value to society and serve as exemplary figures in any roles we occupy.”

It is evident that the insights from these distinguished speakers underscore the urgent need for a holistic approach to addressing insecurity in Nigeria, by embracing advanced technology and fostering positive societal values.
