The Nigeria Association of Retired Civil Defence Officers (NARCDO) has urged the Federal Government to reconsider the retirement benefits of former officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Expressing the association’s stance, the chairman, retired Deputy Commandant General Evans Ewurum, emphasized the necessity of enhancing the retirement and pension package to bring it in line with those of other government security agencies.

Ewurum articulated this during the inauguration of a 13-member committee assigned with the task of devising an operational plan to effectively manage NARCDO.

He remarked, “The association is an extension of the NSCDC and has been entrusted with the specific and well-defined mandate of overseeing the affairs, activities, post-service life, and living conditions of retired NSCDC officers nationwide.”

“The newly inaugurated committee is tasked with facilitating the seamless establishment of the association, which was set up primarily to cater for the welfare and well-being of its members.

“Their role is to strategize and coordinate initiatives and events geared towards developing a blueprint that will culminate in successful fundraising for the association’s operations.”

Furthermore, Ewurum instructed the committee to submit its preliminary report within two weeks, underscoring the need for unwavering commitment from both the committee and other association members towards their respective responsibilities.

He commended the NSCDC Director, Dr Ahmed Audi, for providing a conducive space for the association to commence its activities by furnishing a suitable rented office accommodation.

In addition, the chairman conveyed his appreciation to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for his significant strides in development since assuming office, while appealing for the allocation of land to facilitate the construction of a permanent office for NARCDO.
