The Kaduna State University, KASU, has made headlines by becoming the first Nigerian institution to receive accreditation for its Master’s in Procurement programme, earning international acclaim from the renowned Chartered Institute of Procurement in the United Kingdom, CIPS.
In a statement released on Saturday in Kaduna, KASU’s Public Relations Officer, Adamu Bargo, described this achievement as historic for the university.
“Securing international accreditation from CIPS for its Master of Procurement Programme for the 2023-2024 academic year is a significant milestone for KASU,” said Bargo.
He emphasized that this accreditation not only demonstrates KASU’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence but also unlocks new opportunities for its graduates.
This recognition means that KASU graduates will now be eligible for exemptions from examinations and may be conferred with the esteemed title of “Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply” (MCIPS).
According to Mr. Bargo, the waived examination requirement will expedite the process for students, enabling them to achieve MCIPS status sooner than their counterparts in other institutions.
Furthermore, the CIPS certificate earned through this accreditation holds international recognition in over 120 countries, enhancing the value of KASU’s Master of Procurement Programme and positioning its graduates for global opportunities in the field of procurement and supply chain management.
Expressing his pride in this accomplishment, the Vice-Chancellor of KASU, Prof. Abdullahi Musa, emphasized the university’s dedication to producing highly qualified professionals who can compete on the global stage.
He also commended Dr. Ibrahim Labaran-Ali, a former Head of the Department of Procurement, for his role in obtaining the certification.
“The accreditation attests to KASU’s commitment to educational innovation and industry relevance, setting the university apart and paving the way for its students to excel in the dynamic and competitive field of procurement and supply chain management,” Prof. Musa remarked.
