In a bold declaration, Pastor Patience Umo Eno, the wife of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, delivered a stern warning to perpetrators of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), rapists, and paedophiles in the state, cautioning them to cease their criminal acts or face the full force of the law.

During the launch of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence in the state capital, Uyo, the First Lady, who also serves as the Chairperson of the State GBV Management Committee, emphasized that there would be no leniency towards anyone found guilty, regardless of their societal status.

Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, she articulated, “These crimes must not be taken lightly. Individuals involved in rape or shielding rapists and paedophiles will be held accountable by the law.”

“As the Chairperson of this Committee, I am here today to inaugurate the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence in the state. Henceforth, the status quo will be challenged. I urge our men to support this advocacy by vehemently condemning rape and all forms of abuse against women and the girl-child. It’s imperative that we put an end to this despicable menace,” she added.

Furthermore, she urged parents not to succumb to pressure, advocating for them to seek justice and stand firm. She highlighted that the state government, through the GBV management committee, has implemented measures to combat this distressing trend.

Elaborating on the significance of the ’16 Days Activism’, she underscored its role in raising awareness about the alarming prevalence of rape and abuse in society, stressing the necessity for collective effort to eradicate all forms of gender-based violence from the state.

Reaffirming the state’s commitment, Barrister Emem Etteh, the Secretary of the GBV Committee, described the flag-off walk for the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence as a powerful demonstration against GBV in the state and beyond.

“Akwa Ibom State has consistently stood at the forefront of the battle against rapists and will continue to be a resounding voice against GBV,” she declared.
