The Anambra State Government has taken a significant step by initiating the conduct of Computer-Based Tests (CBT) for candidates applying for the 2023 teachers’ recruitment exercise. This move comes after the state government had previously employed 5,000 teachers for public schools last year, with an additional 3,000 vacancies announced for this year.
In collaboration with the Anambra State ICT Agency led by Mr. Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, the tests are currently underway and have been progressing smoothly since they commenced last Thursday. A press release by the Agency, signed by Agbata, affirmed their commitment to providing technical support for the process in alignment with the government’s vision for comprehensive technology integration.
“With the mandate to deliver the ‘Everything Technology and Technology Everywhere’ vision of Mr. Governor, our agency aims to create an environment that fosters the extensive utilization of technology with endless benefits for the people of Anambra,” explained Agbata.
Applicants undergo verification by the ICT Agency’s technical staff using their national identity cards and examination slips before gaining entry into the CBT hall. The examination, which lasts 30 minutes, has seen an overwhelming response, as disclosed by the ASUBEB Chairman, Dr. Vera Nkiru Nwadinobi, revealing that over 19,500 applications were received through the application portal. The applicants have been grouped in batches for the ongoing examination.
Dr. Nwadinobi emphasized the governor’s strategic commitment to training digital teachers who will spearhead the realization of digital schools in the state. She stressed the importance of having technologically adept teachers to drive the vision of smart schools, thus underlining the necessity of conducting computer-based tests in the recruitment process.
The Anambra State Government’s approach to recruiting teachers through computer-based tests is a significant stride towards establishing a cadre of educators who are proficient in digital skills, aligning with the global shift towards technology integration in education. This forward-thinking initiative is not just about hiring teachers; it’s about shaping the future of education in Anambra State.
