Nigerian Army Arrests Suspected Killer of Couples and 11 Others in Plateau Operation

Troops from Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) of the Nigerian Army have made a significant breakthrough with the arrest of a suspected perpetrator involved in the tragic murder of a couple in the Kwi Community of the Riyom Local Government Area in Plateau state.

Lieutenant-Colonel Ishaku Takwa, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations at the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Rukuba, near Jos, made the disclosure during a press briefing in Jos.

The arrest comes following the brutal killing of a newly married couple, Rwang Danladi, 37, and his 28-year-old wife, Sandra, who were both educators at BECO Comprehensive Secondary School in Kwi. The couple fell victim to armed assailants who stormed the school on August 14.

Explaining the circumstances of the arrest, Mr. Takwa revealed that the apprehension of the suspect, identified as Lukman Aminu, occurred on November 18 in Tafawa community of Barkin Ladi, owing to the unwavering resilience and dedication of the troops.

“In August, armed assailants invaded BECO Comprehensive Secondary School, Kwi, and mercilessly murdered a couple who were both teachers in the institution. We launched an investigation and subsequently nabbed Lukman Aminu, who had been on our wanted list for numerous criminal offenses,” Mr. Takwa explained. “He was apprehended at Tafawa village in Barkin Ladi and has since confessed to committing the crime.”

“We are in pursuit of the remaining perpetrators, and they will be brought to justice soon,” he assured.

According to Mr. Takwa, eleven other suspects have been arrested for various offenses, including murder and illegal weapons manufacturing, in the state.

He also underscored the directive of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and the support of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), emphasizing the commitment to ensuring that criminals, regardless of their status, face justice.

Mr. Takwa commended the dedication of Major-General Abdusalam Abubakar, the Commander of the task force, in safeguarding the lives and property of all Plateau residents. The troops recovered six rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, one sub-machine gun, one rifle, one pistol, and seven unfinished fabricated rifles from the suspects. In addition, a Lister generator, fabricating materials, military kits, four mobile phones, and cash were also seized.
