Eddie Howe, the manager of Newcastle United, lauded Jamaal Lascelles, Kieran Trippier, and Matt Ritchie for their instrumental roles in the remarkable 4-1 victory over Chelsea in Saturday’s Premier League clash at St. James’ Park.
Howe emphasized how Lascelles, Trippier, and Ritchie’s contributions ensured that Newcastle stood firm against Chelsea’s formidable attack.
He also highlighted that the Magpies made a powerful statement with their performance against the Blues.
Newcastle initially took the lead with a goal from Alexander Isak, only to be equalized by a magnificent free-kick from Raheem Sterling for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
However, in the second half, goals from Lascelles, Joelinton, and Anthony Gordon secured a stunning victory for the hosts.
Speaking in his post-match interview, Howe expressed, “It was a true display of character within the squad. We demanded a lot from the players, and they delivered. The win was truly well-deserved, and there are significant positives to take from today’s match.”
He added, “The leaders within the team set the tone: Jamaal Lascelles, Kieran Trippier, Matt Ritchie. Their resilience ensured that we did not falter.”
