Renowned former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand, has expressed his belief that Arsenal has the potential to give Manchester City a run for their money in the race for the Premier League title this season.
Ferdinand’s comments came in the aftermath of Arsenal’s hard-fought 1-0 victory against Brentford, a win that propelled Mikel Arteta’s men to the top of the table with 13 points. This rise to prominence followed a 1-1 draw between Manchester City and Liverpool in the early kick-off.
In his assessment, Ferdinand highlighted Arsenal’s formidable centre-back duo of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes as a pivotal factor that could edge them ahead of Liverpool in the title race. Notably, Arsenal currently boasts the best defensive record in the Premier League this season, having conceded a mere 10 goals in 13 games.
“The two centre-backs, they’ll be the reason why I would put them ahead of Liverpool in the title race to challenge someone like Manchester City,” Ferdinand confidently remarked. “Because you can trust those two implicitly at the moment,” he added.
