Sierra Leone Enforces Nationwide Curfew Following Failed Coup Attempt

Sierra Leone has taken a decisive measure by imposing a nationwide curfew, in the wake of an audacious attack on a military barracks and an attempt to breach an armoury in Freetown, the country’s capital city.

The announcement was made by Chernor Bah, the Minister of Information and Civic Education, and conveyed via official channels on Sunday. President Julius Bio declared the nationwide curfew as a response to the disconcerting breach at the Freetown military barracks.

Emphasizing the government’s unwavering commitment to upholding democracy and preserving peace, President Bio assured the populace that the security forces had successfully contained the situation.

“In the early hours of Sunday, unidentified individuals made a brazen attempt to break into the military armoury at the Wilberforce barracks. However, they were swiftly repelled,” stated the Minister.

“In light of this alarming development, a nationwide curfew has been instituted with immediate effect. We strongly urge all citizens to remain indoors and adhere to the curfew.”

Recalling the President’s early morning address to the nation, the Minister reiterated the security breach in Freetown and the subsequent swift response from the security forces, which ultimately restored calm.

“As our security forces diligently pursue the remaining renegades, we implore all citizens to comply with the nationwide curfew and remain indoors,” urged the Minister.

This decisive action by the Sierra Leonean government serves as a resolute stance in safeguarding the nation’s stability and security amidst this unsettling episode.
