The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has scoffed at President Bola Tinubu’s recent intervention in the ongoing feud between Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, dismissing it as nothing more than a facade.
In a statement issued by the party’s spokesperson, Kennedy Peretei, he expressed cynicism towards the efficacy of the intervention, asserting that the crisis is far from being resolved as Governor Akeredolu “remains in hiding.”
Tinubu had summoned Aiyedatiwa and other involved parties to the Presidential Villa in Abuja in a bid to bring an end to the political turmoil in the state, particularly in light of Akeredolu’s conspicuous absence.
During the meeting, Tinubu urged for a truce and emphasized the need to quash any discussions of impeachment.
Peretei bemoaned the adverse impact of the internal party strife on the governance of the state and criticized the squandering of taxpayers’ money on what he described as fruitless voyages to Abuja.
He further remarked, “Let us pray that the presidential intervention will not go the way of the Bello Masari Reconciliation Committee initiated by APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje. After several trips to Abuja at taxpayers’ expense, both parties returned to court despite promises to withdraw all cases. From what we have read about the outcome, Tinubu’s intervention is a mere window dressing.”
Continuing, Peretei cautioned, “Out of respect for his office, the impeachment of the deputy governor will no longer see daylight, but as long as Akeredolu remains in hiding, it is not yet Uhuru, the cat and mouse race will still continue. The siege is not yet over.”
