Police Uncover Plot to Incite Violence in Kano Over Appeal Court Verdict

The Kano State Police Command has revealed the discovery of certain groups scheming to foment violence in the state following the appeal court’s decision, which declared Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, victorious over Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

According to the command, seven suspects have been apprehended and will be prosecuted in court. It was also disclosed that unidentified groups claiming to be traders have been congregating at various locations in the state, including some local government areas. The command assured the public that it is fully addressing the situation.

Speaking to journalists, the Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel, stated that intelligence reports in their possession indicate that these purported traders are exploiting religion to advance their agenda.

“Concerned citizens approached us from Bebeji, Wudil, and other areas, informing us of people concealing their activities under the guise of Quranic recitation for prayers. We have already deployed our personnel to disperse them,” he stated.

He expressed concern that these groups were attempting to stoke public sentiment against the police by spreading rumors that they mistreated women during the dispersal operation.

“These faceless groups intend to propagate negative messages via social and traditional media outlets against the Police, exerting pressure to accomplish their nefarious objectives,” he added.
