President Bola Tinubu is currently leading the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting of his administration at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja. The agenda for the cabinet meeting includes the swearing-in of eight newly appointed permanent secretaries who have been approved to serve in the Federal Civil Service.
This session of the meeting is of significant importance as it marks the return of Vice President Kashim Shettima and other ministers who were away in the United States during the last FEC meeting held on the 23rd of October, 2023.
The Monday cabinet meeting commenced promptly at 12 p.m and is graced by the presence of distinguished officials such as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan; the Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila; the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and other esteemed members of the cabinet.
During the previous Council meeting chaired by President Tinubu, the Federal Executive Council gave its stamp of approval to a draft policy for the Nigerian Solid Mineral sector. This comprehensive policy focuses on the sector’s operations, guidelines, regulatory framework, and sourcing dynamics.
In addition to this policy approval, the Council also sanctioned the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a prominent German Mining Technology Company, GEO SCAN, aimed at the exploration of Nigeria’s estimated $700 billion worth of mineral resources underground.
It is important to note that the FEC in Nigeria serves as the highest advisory body to the President. This august body is tasked with vital responsibilities, including the formulation of policies, provision of invaluable advice on governance matters, and the oversight of government initiative implementation. These significant decisions and policies directly impact the nation’s growth and development across various sectors.
This latest FEC session underscores the commitment of President Tinubu’s administration to harness the country’s abundant mineral resources for economic advancement, while also upholding transparency and good governance.
As President Tinubu presides over this crucial meeting, Nigeria eagerly anticipates the positive outcomes and impactful decisions that will be made for the benefit of the nation and its people.
