The popular Afrobeats artist, Davido, has recently challenged the lawsuit brought against him by Amaju Pinnick, Chairman of Brownhill Investments Company Limited, for an alleged breach of contract amounting to N2.3 billion.
It was reported by Media Talk Africa that Pinnick, the former president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), filed the lawsuit on October 31. He claimed that Davido had failed to honour a contract to perform at the 19th edition of the ‘Warri Again’ event, scheduled for October 6, 2023, after receiving a payment of $94,500.
However, during the hearing, Davido’s legal representative, Norrison Quakers (SAN), challenged the jurisdiction of the Delta State High Court in Effurun to adjudicate the matter. The singer argued that the issue should be treated as a debt recovery case, emphasizing that Pinnick should have issued a demand letter prior to initiating legal action.
Additionally, Davido denied the authority of Sosoberokon, who signed the contract on his behalf, as his authorized agent. He also disputed Pinnick’s claim, asserting that the payment was for promotional services rather than a performance.
The court subsequently adjourned the case to December 14, 2023, to rule on the preliminary objections filed in both cases.
