The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, has launched an investigation into the United Nigeria flight NUA 0506 bound for Asaba, and the resultant public confusion. In a statement released on Monday in Abuja, NCAA Director-General, Capt. Musa Nuhu, confirmed the commencement of the investigation and assured the public of rigorous steps being taken pending the conclusion of the ongoing probe.
“The Authority is committed to leaving no stone unturned, as always, to ensure the continued safety of the aviation industry,” he asserted.
On the other hand, Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu, the Head of Corporate Communications of United Nigeria Airlines, explained in a statement that the flight, which departed from Lagos en route to Abuja on Sunday, was temporarily diverted to the Asaba International Airport, Delta, due to adverse weather conditions at its original destination.
Uchegbu clarified, “The pilots were fully aware of the temporary diversion and were adequately briefed. However, a miscommunication by the cabin crew upon landing in Asaba led to confusion among the passengers.”
He further added, “Subsequently, the aircraft safely landed in Abuja after an improvement in the weather conditions.”
