NBS and UNDP Unveil Nigeria Visualise Project to Enhance Data Literacy

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has officially launched the Nigeria Visualise Project in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, and the NBS. The unveiling ceremony in Abuja marked a significant milestone in the collective journey towards creating awareness on data literacy among Nigerians.

Adeyemi Adeniran, the Statistician General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of the NBS, expressed optimism about the project’s objectives aligning with the NBS’s mandate to enhance indicator means and make more data available. He emphasized the NBS’s commitment to establishing a Data Science and Innovation Lab and a GIS Unit, aiming to enhance and add value to the data produced and disseminated by the NBS.

Adeniran highlighted that the innovation lab would serve as a center to test new methods and techniques in sampling, data collection, analysis, reporting, and dissemination. He also thanked the UNDP for their collaboration, emphasizing that the partnership would enhance the capacity to enlighten and educate the people on using data and visual storytelling to craft a narrative reflecting the resilience, diversity, and potential of the nation.

Encouraging support and embrace for the project, Adeniran expressed optimism that it would inspire a culture of informed decision-making contributing to the sustainable development of the nation.

The Nigeria Visualise Project is a pivotal step towards advancing data literacy and harnessing the power of data for the collective good of the country.
