The Directorate of Citizens Rights (DCR) of the Ministry of Justice in Ekiti State has initiated legal proceedings against Chef Dammy’s pastor, Prophet Adegoke Jeremiah, also known as Billion Dollars Prophet, and the State Police Command over an alleged violation of her rights.

The DCR is also pursuing N10 million in compensation for damages on behalf of Dammy, who gained prominence after her attempt to secure a place in the Guinness World Records for the longest hours of cooking a few months ago.

Adegoke, the founder of Spirit Word Global Mission, an Ekiti-based church, purportedly supported Dammy’s endeavor to break Hilda Baci’s cook-a-thon record.

According to Media Talk Africa, the conflict between Dammy and her pastor emerged in October, when the 24-year-old chef publicly criticized Billion Dollars Prophet on social media, stating that he should be held accountable if anything adverse happened to her.

In response, the clergyman, through his legal representatives at Bisayo Sule & Co Legal Practitioners, issued a letter dated 23rd October 2023, demanding a retraction of the statement on social media and in two widely circulated national newspapers, as well as payment of N22 million for defamation.

On Thursday, November 23, 2023, Chef Dammy was purportedly arrested by the police following an alleged petition filed against her by Adegoke.

However, in a lawsuit filed by the DCR on November 24, Dammy was listed as the applicant, whereas Adegoke, Ajewole Samuel, the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, and the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 17 Akure, were named as respondents.

The lawsuit seeks a declaration that the persistent harassment, molestation, threat of arrest, and intimidation by the pastor and the Nigeria Police infringe upon Dammy’s fundamental human rights.
