The Governor of Ebonyi State, Mr. Francis Nwifuru, has reassured the members of the 2023 batch ‘C’ stream ‘II’ National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) of unwavering hospitality throughout their service year. This pledge is aimed at facilitating their ability to make a positive impact on the people of the State.
Represented by the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, who also serves as the State Chairman of the NYSC Governing Council, Mr. Richard Idike, Governor Nwifuru made this commitment during the swearing-in ceremony at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Afikpo North Local Government Area of the State.
Expressing his confidence in the hospitality of the people of Ebonyi State, Governor Nwifuru stated, “It cannot be argued that some of you are setting your feet on the Ebonyi soil for the first time. I urge you to feel at home because our people are not only hospitable; they are kind-hearted especially to corps members. You must therefore feel free to interact with the people and free your mind from all forms of previously held negative stories about the people as they never existed and make good use of the opportunity that service year has offered.”
He also promised to provide an enabling environment for members of the service corps to operate in the state.
Mrs. Oladeinde Foluke, the NYSC State Coordinator, emphasized the organization’s commitment to promoting national unity, integration, and accelerated socio-economic development. She also highlighted the NYSC’s objective of instilling in the youth a tradition of industry at work, patriotic and loyal service to Nigeria, as it marks its 50th anniversary.
“It is a thing of joy, therefore, as graduates from various institutions, diverse cultures, and backgrounds gather for service to the fatherland,” Mrs. Foluke remarked.
“In the course of the orientation exercise, you will be introduced to various processes and national issues, learn about the language, culture, and traditions of the people, and undergo training such as Para-military, Man ‘O’ War, SAED, amongst others. All these are designed to adequately prepare you for the service year and beyond,” she added.
“I urge you, my children, to brace up, key in with renewed vigor to participate actively. I have no doubt that you will record a hitch-free orientation, rich and rewarding service year in Ebonyi State,” Mrs. Foluke stressed.
She disclosed that a total of 2,050 corps members have been deployed to Ebonyi State, out of which, 1820 have reported and been registered, comprising 924 males and 896 females.
