The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has made plans to hold discussions with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, concerning the significant issue of Nigeria’s absence from Iraq.

This development comes after the Iraqi Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Anwer Saeed Aljabali, voiced his concerns during a courtesy visit on Tuesday.

Expressing surprise at the lack of a Nigerian mission in Iraq where citizens could seek assistance, Abbas affirmed his commitment to addressing this issue with Tuggar.

Emphasizing the importance of Iraq in the global community, the Speaker stressed the need to operationalize Nigeria’s mission in the country.

“We are determined to take action. I will engage with the Minister of Foreign Affairs to resolve these issues and facilitate the reopening of the Nigerian Mission in Iraq,” Abbas stated.

Additionally, Abbas conveyed the establishment of a Parliamentary Friendship Group by the 10th House, aimed at fostering cooperation with the Iraqi parliament for the benefit of both countries.

“Our commitment to parliamentary relations with nations across the globe is unwavering. This led to the creation of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Parliament of Iraq. The committee’s chairman will schedule a meeting with you soon,” he assured the Iraqi ambassador.
