National Assembly Seeks NSE Collaboration to Boost Manufacturing Sector

Senator Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, has pledged to work hand in hand with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) to formulate laws that will fast-track the growth of the manufacturing sector in the country.

Akpabio made this commitment during his address at the commencement of the 2023 National Engineering Conference held in Abuja on Tuesday.

The conference revolved around the theme, “Re-engineering the Manufacturing Sector for Competitiveness and Enhanced Economic Growth.”

Emphasizing the vital role of infrastructure in the success of the manufacturing industry, Akpabio stressed the necessity of enacting favourable legislation and regulations to drive its expansion.

Representing Akpabio at the event, Mr. Ike Ugwuegede reiterated the National Assembly’s interest in collaborating with the NSE to spearhead the revamping of the nation’s manufacturing sector.

“The 10th National Assembly is keen on partnering with the NSE and the relevant House and Senate Committees to expedite the revamping of our country’s manufacturing sector,” said Ugwuegede, conveying Akpabio’s message.

He added, “We aim to streamline democratic processes to minimize bureaucracy and create incentives for local production and entrepreneurship. Furthermore, we are focused on promoting sustainable practices, fostering local content development, and safeguarding intellectual property rights through the implementation of favourable policies,” Akpabio highlighted.
